Three more entries posted.

For 19th December 1661, the following events are modelled:

  • Elizabeth sits for Mr. Savill. Samuel attends the sitting and his participation is modelled using the 'audience' role type.
  • Samuel and Elizabeth travel home from Mr. Savill's by coach.
  • During the coach ride, the couple have an argument.
  • Samuel dines with William Warren at the Dolphin.
  • Samuel works at the Navy Office.
  • Samuel returns home from the office.

For 20th December 1661, the following events are modelled:

  • Samuel dines at the Wardrobe.
  • Samuel and Henry Moore meet William Swan in the street.
  • The trio go drinking at a local tavern during which they discuss religion. This is modelled as two separate events, a drinking event and a discussion with the discussion occurring during the drinking.
  • Samuel and Henry Moore go to the Royal Exchange.
  • Sameul discusses maritime law (or as Pepys puts it 'Dominion of the Sea') with Henry Moore .
  • Samuel returns home.
  • Samuel reads more of Selden's Mare Clausum.

Finally, for 21st December 1661 we have:

  • Samuel discusses the ending of Privy Seal business for the duration of the Christmas holidays. The discussion is with Sir John Robartes and takes place at his chambers in Whitehall Palace.
  • Samuel visits a Mrs. Sarah and Mrs. Betty at Sir Edward Montagu's lodgings at Whitehall Palace.
  • Samuel drinks with a group of civil servants ('Exchequer men') at the Dog.
  • Samuel has a discussion about maritime law with Edward Falconberg.
  • Samuel meets William Prior (of Brampton) at Thomas Pepys' house.
  • Samuel returns home by coach.
  • Samuel works at the Navy Office. We know that both Sir William Penn and Batten are present at the office too as they complain about Pepys' frequent absence!
  • Samuel writes letters from his home.
  • Samuel reads more of Selden's Mare Clausum.
  • Also occurring today was the christening of John Hunt - an event that was attended by Elizabeth Pepys.

Four entries posted today - although all are relatively short entries.

Events for 15th December 1661 are as follows:

  • Samuel attends morning service at St. Olave.
  • William Penn dines with Pepys at his home.
  • Samuel attends the afternoon service at St. Olave.
  • Elizabeth argues with her maid, Nell.
  • Samuel reads Grotius' Mare Liberum and Selden's Mare Clausum. These two texts are modelled as topics as are their respective authors.

For 16th December 1661:

  • James Bollen visits Samuel Pepys at home.
  • Bollen and Pepys travel by coach to the Wardrobe to call on Henry Moore.
  • Bollen, Moore and Pepys travel on to Chelsea to the home of the Privy Seal, Sir John Robartes.
  • Bollen, Moore, Pepys and Robartes attend to Privy Seal business.
  • Elizabeth Pepys visits Elizabet Hunt (this takes place while Samuel is working).
  • Samuel, Elizabeth and Sarah dine at Sir Edward Montagu's lodgings. I have assumed that "Sarah" refers to Elizabeth's maid.
  • Samuel and Elizabeth attend a perfomance of 'Cutter of Coleman Street' at the Opera.
  • The Pepys return home by coach.

For 17th December:

  • Samuel visits Mr. Savill to view the progress on his portrait.
  • Samuel is called to work at the Privy Seal (this is simply modelled as a working event).
  • Samuel works at the Navy Office.
  • Samuel has supper at home.
  • Samuel reads more of Selden's 'Mare Clausum'.

For 18th December:

  • Samuel works at the Navy office.
  • Elizabeth sits for Mr. Savill.
  • Samuel and Elizabeth dine with Jemima Montagu. I have assumed that the location referred to by Pepys as "Lady Sandwich's" is the Montagu's main London residence.
  • Samuel and his brother Thomas visit Jane Turner.
  • Samuel returns to the Montagu's.
  • Samuel and Elizabeth return home.

In the entry for 13th December 1661, the following events are modelled:

  • Samuel dines at home.
  • Elizabeth Pepys sits for Mr. Savill's portrait while Samuel watches. Samuel's role is modelled using the 'audience' role type.
  • The Pepys return home.
  • Samuel works at the Navy Office with Penn and Batten.
  • Pepys, Penn and Batten drink at the Steelyard (a merchants area in the city) and are joined by Elizabeth Batten and John Cox. This is all modelled as a single drinking event.
  • There is some musical performance during the group's time at the tavern. This is modelled as a performance event, but we are not told who is the performer or what is performed. The drinkers in the previous event are all assumed to have been audience to the performance.
  • Samuel returns home by coach.

The entry for 14th December 1661 is quite short and only the following events are modelled:

  • Sameul and Elizabeth dine at home.
  • Samuel works at the Navy Office.
  • Samuel returns home from the office.
